It was a long time ago i know but i seem to recall that when xp was near release we created a temporary dedicated sub forum for it. Even if we didn't for xp i think it would be a good idea now.

Windows is getting more and more awash with vista threads now which are getting a little annoying.

I agree Zap. And it could have its own sticky...

Should I get Vista?
Should I get 32bit or 64bit
What Version of Vista should I get
Who is getting Vista
How much is Vista
Can I import Vista from the US
Can I change machines on OEM vista
What's the difference between each version of vista
Will vista run on this rig..
Why I hate Vista
Why I love Vista
How to Install Vista

The usual suspects. I would start the FAQ, but I am too biased. However i'm sure some kind soul will get sick of answering the same questions and eventually do one.

Yeah to many Vista threads in here now, the Dons did close a few and tell everyone to post in the Vista threads that were already about, but looks like they got sick of doing that now, probably no one listened. :(

Gona be worse when it hits and all the '******* VISTA IS A PILE OF *****' threads turn up, theres no graphics drivers or nowt for it yet, and Gibbo rekons hes shipping it when he gets it in around the 12th, and the official date is the 30th  oh what fun, this place is going to go up next week when ppl get it, but can't use it as Gibbo shipped it early before the graphics card etc... manufacturers released their Vista drivers, as they have all said they will release drivers for it before the launch, so who's to say they wont release em till the 29th, its still before the launch, trouble is Gibbos shipping it next week so he rekons, oh dear gona go up in here i tell thee, gona be a whole lot worse VISTA VISTA VISTA :(

I think Feb is the best time to buy Vista ,just let the dust settle ,its XP all over again ,that was going to go *** up ,but was a great OS ,just chill out and relax its going to be the best yet ;)

This is the windows forum, Vista is windows, Vista threads belong in windows.

It is the purpose of this section, just link to a thread where people have answered the question and RTM the thread for closure if you are annoyed by the influx of threads.

I agree with Yewen, whats the point in a sub-forum for a couple of months, this is the Windows forum and Vista is part of windows :D.

bit naive thinking that this is actually going to happen, isn't it...

Agree with this ,this is a free forum to have your say .. :o

He's really shipping it on the 12th? Ooh don't tempt me...

I just reinstalled XP and it runs like a dream compared to Vista Beta 2, though I imagine [and hope] that there's a world of difference between Beta 2 and RTM.

The problem being that threads about one subject, often repeated and lots of replies, detract from people looking for help with more 'traditional' problems

If the sub forum is off the cards then i think the sticky would be a good compromise as suggested. We could link all common questions to that and quickly wrap up the thread.

I'm too lazy to make one but i'll be happy to contribute

Personally nothing has yet to be asked that cannot be easily looked up. Theres a multitude of websites detailing every aspect of Vista yet the questions keep flooding in.

Personally you learn more if you discover it for yourself.

32 or 64 bit can be answered straight away

if you want to have 4gb of ram or more get 64bit vista

if you plan to have 1 single drive over 2Terrabyte ie 4x 750gb drives
in a raid 0 or raid 5 or 10 config then you need a 64bit system
to see the total amount of space

32bit xp or vista you will not see more than 2Terrabyte on a single drive
config and big drives are around corner

thats easy enough to decide 32bit over 64bit vista.

Not entirely - you seem to have missed the point.

32-bit has a lot of insecurities to keep backward compatibility, whereas 64-bit Vista is more secure.

64-bit apps will outperform 32-bit apps (there aren't many yet)

64-bit drivers may be lacking, but with MS requiring both 32 and 64-bit drivers to get WHQL signing, they should start appearing fairly swiftly after launch.

A 'Vista' sticky would be great. Evereyone could post in that for the next few months. Keep everything together?

I was thinking the same thing, but the turnover of posts would be way too large for everyone to get their points addressed.
