Needing to build a new system, for still / video image editing, and general office aps. When I see how 2GB improves image editing speed, I definitely want to go even further, and put 4GB ram in my new machine.

Am I correct in thinking I need x64 to take advantage of 4GB?

Please fill me in with the relative pros and cons of x32 v. x64. Thanks

Can't really think if Vista x32 is limited to 3GB (it was in XP).

I'd certainly go for x64 bit though as everything is moving to be compatible with it.

Pros pretty much everything works with it. You're using better architecture so that should mean an increase in performance.

Cons some stuff won't work!

32 bit is limited to 2GB so if you are going to go 4GB go 64bit from the start.

Have a hunt around here a this has been covered daily.

Actually x86 (32 bit) is limited to 4GB TOTAL addressable memory.

That means RAM, video card, and also (I think) things like CPU Cache etc.

Most people end up with 3-3.75GB addressable RAM all in all. You'll *definitly* need x64 to take advantage of 4GB.
