As title, my CoH and other games randomly freeze in vista x64, while rock stable in xp, perhaps it's coz I'm using dualview, and that vista drivers arn't yet 100% bug free when using that, but I'ts getting annoying, will and if they will : when will nvidia release newer drivers for x64 fixing more issues?
My card is a 6800GS btw.

Or isn't it worth the wait and should I go for ATI on my next card, I really want to use vista but nvidia is spoiling it, wanted to go for 8800gts as my next card, but unsure if 8xxx series have proper drivers, should I go for r600 instead?

But in the 1st case, for the next few months I'm still stuck with my 6800gs, will drivers improve you think?

Unfortunately they support the 8000 series more so now after a slow start, and then there is also the 7000 series above the 6000 series, I had a 6800Ultra @470/1250 in 2004 and it is nowhere near powerfull enough for high end gameplay today IMO.

For me it is, and im broke anyhow atm so need to keep using it for a few more months, but I need new drivers :( .

Nvidia at the moment do seem to be quite slow at getting new drivers out for older hardware.

It wouldn't suprise me if no more drivers came out for some of these older peices. A good example is the nForce4 AMD drivers, nothing for XP/2000 since July7 last year.

Bit of a different situation there though, XP is an old OS and Nforce4 is getting on a bit now so there is probably very little to be gained from a new chipset driver version.

Whereas with Vista being less than 6 months old, one might expect some potential improvements to be made. Especially as we are talking GPU rather than chipset.

On a related note in general I think people have got a bit too used to this idea of drivers being constantly updated. If you look back historically, typically new drivers would only come out in order to:

-Support new hardware/software
-Fix bugs

...whereas now we kinda take it for granted that there will be new drivers available every month. My attitude is, there's little point a company wasting time putting out a new driver if it doesn't really improve anything - i.e. don't do it for the sake of it.

Tbh I've experimented with games, and 70% of all problems are fixed by disabling my 2nd monitor when gaming, I didn't have to do this in xp ! But there are still some problems like the odd CoH freeze.

The games like GTA:SA are all stable now, but still woundering why I actually have to disable my 2nd mon to play em ok, in xp I could play any game without disabling my 2nd mon, nvidia definatly got some work to do still for dualview users.

Pfffff now a freeze in vice city, same thing that happens in coh, music plays on, game engine ssems to be running as you can hear stuff, but screen is frozen, only thing I can do is ctrl alt del and kill the process...

NVIDIA MAKE PROPER X64 drivers for vista !!!

edit: PFF now sa froze, today vista & nvidia hate me.
