At ther moment ive got a nokia 6280 and its locked to vodafone. However im on 02 and wanted to use my 02 sim in it obviously.

They arent unlockable by your average market person and it has to be unlocked by the network.

So off i went to the vodafone store and asked for the restriction code. They took all my details and and looked uo my IMEI on the system. They said they can still do but need to request the code from nokia. They emailled them when i was there and took my £20 they asked for the unlock code. They said theyd either email or text the code to me.

How long should i wait before i go back and tell them ive had nothing through?

I also rang nokia on the offchance they could give it too me, and they claim that vodafone generate the codes.

Anyone ever had a phone unlocked by the network provider and how long did it take tyo get the code?

There are currently some long wait times to get nokia 3g handsets unlocked, expect to wait anywhere up to 3 weeks.

Sorry to hear of the problems you've had getting your NUC (network unlock code).

There has been a delay in getting Nokia network unlock codes in September 2006. This has since been resolved.

It's possible to request an NUC from customer services by getting in touch via email using the ‘contact us’ option on www.vodafone.co.uk and leaving the short code FIT135 in the body of the email.

You'll just need to provide the following information:

- Make and model of handset
- IMEI number (you can find this by entering * # 0 6 # and pressing send)
- Address including post code
- Account number / security PIN or your Pay As You Talk number

Vodafone then contact the manufacturer to obtain the NUC code. If the handset is under twelve months old then there would be a charge of £19.99 to unlock the handset which is either debited from the account (if contract) or needs to be applied onto the handset as calling credit (if pay as you talk). If your handset is over twelve months old then you can get an NUC code free of charge.

You do need to be a Vodafone customer for the code to be requested.

Ive paid the £19.99 in cash at the vodafone store and got a reciept for this. If i scan the reciept and send it in the emasil will they give me the code.

Apparently they are requesting it from nokia but havent had a reply yet. I rang nokia and they say that vodafone lock the handsets themselves and should have the codes.

Not sure what to bilieve as the phone was manufactured by nokia and had voda branding on it and the description on the box where the IMEI is says N6280 VF Live!PAYT(UK)

It would be useful if you added the receipt as an attachment to the e mail.

The person who receives your e mail may not be able to get the code immediately, but they’ll certainly be keen to chase it up for you.

If your phone is locked by Vodafone, you do need to go through Vodafone to get the Network Unlock Code (NUC). Sometimes if the code isn’t available in Vodafone’s database then they’ll have to contact the manufacturer for the code, but it has to be Vodafone who contact the manufacturer – The user can’t contact the manufacturer directly for a NUC.

I hope this gets sorted soon.
