Vodafone Upgrade.......WTF!

Ok, so I signed up to an 18 month upgraded contract W/C 11th August 2008 and received my phone on the 22nd August 2008. I remember this clearly as I was flying out to the US on the 23rd August and was frantically trying to load the US maps for Nokia maps before I flew out the next day.

So nearly 18 months later I'm looking to upgrade my phone. Vodafone state you can upgrade 60 days before the end of a contract. Great. Contract is due to expire sometime in late February 2010, therefore late December 2009 I should be able to get my upgrade. Sounds simple!

So last night I phone Vodafone to sort out my upgrade and I was told I can't upgrade until February 25th and my contract isn't due to expire in April. WTF? I told them the dates they sent me the phone and they said my contract didn't start until October 2008. When I asked them how come I had the phone in August then they couldn't answer me :S

The only thing I can think of is that because it was an upgrade that my original contract still had to run its course. However, when I suggested this he said that it is not the case. He confirmed this by telling me if I was to upgrade in February 2010 then my upgraded contract expires 18 months from the February date, not the April date when my current contract expires.

So yeah, a little confused. Anyone else had any issues like this at all?

It sounds like a simple case of the person you spoke to is a moron and didn't know what the hell he was talking about.

Your initial thought will be correct. You can upgrade 2 months before the end of each contract, if you take the option of upgrading 2 months early, although you receive the handset and new price plan straight away, the new commitment terms dont start until your initial contract period has been fulfilled.

So it will be the case that when you upgraded in august, you were at that time upgrading 2 months early, and your new 18 month commitment didn't start in august when upgraded, but in october when your original commitment expired.

You just unfortunately spoke to an idiot on the phone.

Thanks for your reply. It's nice to see someone is on my level at least :)

As for the guy at Vodafone, he was pretty crap. He made you feel like you were taking up his time and gave the impression he couldn't give a monkies. Probably end of his shift or something. Nevertheless I sit here happy in the knowledge knowing that my actual contract is awesome compared to the crap they offer these days with 24 month contracts. I've managed to squeeze more out of them each year and so on some level it feels like I'm screwing them, even though they still no doubt be making profit on me anyway :p But I sleep well at night.....I just want a new phone :) Ah well, such is life! lol
