Voice chat: Other guy hears himself from my pc?

Hi guys, I was hoping you could help me with this problem.
When I'm in a voice chat with my friend my pc sends his sound back to him. We've tried everything we can think of to fix it but still no luck.

First of all, we're both on headsets.
Line In/Pink In is muted in the playback controls for both PCs.
We've tried swapping between the front and rear jacks.
We tried googling the problem and while we found a couple of sites where the same question was asked, the solutions didn't help us (muting line in under playback and lowering speaker volume).

He only hears himself when talking to me, specifically. When I close the chat (msn) or mute my general volume control he doesn't hear himself any more, so the problem is definitely on my side.

Hope you guys can give us some ideas how to fix it. Cheers.

System:
WinXP SP2
Razer Piranha headset
Asus P5NE-SLI (onboard sound)
Intel E2200
nVidia 9600GT.

usually its the speakers picking up feedback from the mike try moving them further away.

Methinks speaker & mic proximity are not the problem here

you still can get feedback from headsets if the speakers are on and close to the headsets

you could also check the sound drivers and update these to reset the sound settings

If the headphones are loud they can feedback to the mic -mine do it occasionly.
Check the sound settings in the control panel, I've had problems in the past when the creative "what u hear" was set too high (cant remember what the non creative ones called but it does the same thing)
