hey guys,

I have a 2001 1.4 polo which is causing me a load of problems at the moment. The engine management light was on for a few weeks until i managed to take it to a garage who told me that the ignition coil pack had blown. So I got this fixed and replaced all the spark plugs and leads and drove it away fromt he garage with no problems.

so a week later, the engine management light comes back on again and I have no idea whats wrong with it. I'm due to part-x it next week and dont want to take it in with problems! any suggestions?

Being a newish car you should be able to get the codes read through the obd port, i would have thought that coil pack being "blown" would have caused the car to not run?

Maybe a search on some vw forums might help?

If you're part ex'ing it just disconnect the battery and then re-connect it before you take it in, that'll clear the light, up to you tbh..

How many coil packs did they replace? Once one goes the others have a nasty habit of following shortly after.

Make sure it's not the light on the dashboard that's the problem. I had that issue with the ABS light on a '52 polo.

hmmm I have a similar problem with mine but my light is flashing, has been now for a while.... I shall watch this closely

When one of my coils went the car ran like **** however it would still run and drive it just had 0 power!

If it is coil on plug odds are another coil has gone, the garage should have changed all 4, get another 3 coils and change the others, they work out at £24 + VAT each from the dealer.
