I've seen it done on other sites but just wondered if anyone here has had a go yet? The pcb is a different layout to other 7900gts so it's a bit different from the standard pen mod:)

out of the frying pan and into the fire.

you shoudl run that card at stock for a while, chances are that it will die out on you soon.

overclocking any high end card is just stupid, what does any1 gain from doing it nothing because it already plays everything at max with amazing frame rates, just stupidity

no it will benefit from overclocking. as long as there is a performance increase when using 2 cards in sli, there there will always be a performance increase when overclocking the one card.

the performance increase will be an extra 2 fps when he is already doing about 100 in most games, so he will see no difference apart from in temperature which will kill his card and show him why you shouldnt overclock a card which has a very high overclocking death rate

People wouldn't overclock if it didn't improve performance. If you used my system at stock then with the CPU @ 2.7Ghz and the GPU @ 720/900 you would realise it's like night and day.

Also, is this not a site for hardware enthusiasts and overclockers? I mean, I assumed so from the actual name of the site, the URL, the fact there's a dedicated overclocking section on the forums and whatnot. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

fair play if he wants to overclock a card which has a very high failure rate due to overclocking. it is only the pre overclocked cards that are dying isnt it? i overclock myself i just dont think its worth the risk, thats why my x2 4800 is only at 2.5ghz it used to be 2.65ghz stock is 2.4ghz, my x1900xt is too fast so ive just kept it at stock

It's not only the factory-overclocked cards that keep showing up DOA, but it's most common for them by a large margin.

I misread what you said, so I apologise. I thought you were saying that overclocking offers no improvement, but now I see that you mean it's not worth the risk overclocking 7900s and I completely agree.

yeh thats what i was trying to say its not worth the risk, especially with its high death rate, losing £200 trying to gain an extra few fps, this whole situation just remined me of the xbox 360 scandal, my first 360 dies after a month the 7900's just seem soooooooooooo poorly manufactured, i thought they were meant to run cooler and use less power, i suppose when they dont even start up they are running cooler and using zero power, LOL

off topic - ulfhednar do you play source on the VIA server by any chance?

I used to play it under a different name, but I never played on that server. It must be somebody else.

What are you guys on about? No benefit from overclocking your card? Are you actually mental? of course theres a benefit, this is an overclocking forum, we don't do it just to break stuff.

Everybody knows overclocking gives you that extra 500 marks on 3dMark...

And you know what they say about the people with bigger overclocks have...

Better gaming performance because their CPU was bottlenecking the whole PC at stock?
