Hi everyone,

I’m a final year University student doing a dissertation regarding the impact of technology and luxury to our future experiences, and I’m curious to know, how has Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR & AR) impacted your experiences in any way, or how do you believe it can improve your experiences?

Do you believe virtual and augmented reality can help fashion brands “sell” experiences to consumers, and how?

What industries do you believe will mostly benefit from VR and AR?

How do you think VR and AR could be used in stores to improve experiences?

If anyone has any specific examples or knowledge regarding it’s impact within the fashion industry too or to your shopping experiences please be free to share I’d be very interested!

Any responses or comments made will be very useful and I'd be very appreciative.

Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but during this time in particular (though it will continue), I've not physically seen my dad for over a year, and only usually see him a few times a year. In VR we go fishing together roughly every week. It's far more sociable than a phone call or a video call etc, it feels far more natural, and you can actually "see" the person in the same location as you. For me, the social/social media industry has huge potential here, which I guess is why Facebook are all over it.

My biggest concern is that if Facebook (or another big tech company) becomes big enough to essentially own the VR metaverse (think the Oasis in Ready Player One), and it's used for work, socialising and play, then the possibility of being 'cancelled' or having your account banned over 'wrongthink' or other spurious reasons (and what's acceptable content changes frequently) could mean a ban from being able to function in society at all.
