Arghgh why do people continue to perpetuate these myths? Spend a few hours ringing insurers! Group 12 is not a high group, there is no reason why someone who is older than me cannot insure one. I insure a Group 17 car with 3 points, no NCB and a claim. You just need to spend a few hours ringing round.

What insurer are you with Fox?

You cant be on that tight a budget as you've just spent £4.5k on a car!

£4.5k was my budget, and i wouldnt have been able to afford to insure an A4. If i had the money I would love to, plus i dont want a bigger car like an A4 at the moment. If i was going to go for an audi at this precise moment it would have been an A3 but there are bugger all decent ones around at my budget.

Anyway, i havnt got £4.5k to spend, you guessed it, it came from a loan which i really didnt want to take out as it now takes my debt upto £10k.

because not everyone can afford to use their student loans to fund a car? or they actually are on a tight budget? how hard is it to understand?

I didnt know it was possible for so many people to completely miss the point. He clearly isn't on a tight budget becuase he's just spent £4,500 on a car. People on tight budgets buy good bargain cars for less than £2k and run them cheaply.

Anyway, i havnt got £4.5k to spend, you guessed it, it came from a loan which i really didnt want to take out as it now takes my debt upto £10k.

So why did you take it out? Seriously? You can buy a Seat Toledo for less than £2k which is fundamentally the same car as the Golf. Sure it isn't pretty and you wont pull girls in it but if you are in debt already then it's far far more preferably to getting yourself even more in debt to buy a Golf!

You borrowed £9k for that golf?
mental!

No, I read it that he already has debt and now he's increased it to buy a Golf.

He mentioned that his insurance is above the cost of the car, meaning £9k. If he had to borrow to buythe car I have no doubt he has borrowed to pay the insurance also.

You know what I meant. Golfs depreciate a lot slower than the vast majority of cars and even when they've got 140k on the clock it doesn't seem to matter, they still command a premium price.

They are when you are on a strict budget as i am :( if i could afford to insure a GT TDi 130/150 i would probably have enough money to buy one with a few less miles on the ticker aswel

If money is so tight, why not spend 1k on something else and save up them pennies?

Ops i noticed you got it.

Happy motoring i guess

To SniperWolf - congratulations on your new car. :D You've done well if you got it for 4.5k. That engine doesn't have the pumpe duse high pressure injectors, and doesn't really have any weak points that I'm aware of. I had a MK4 a few years ago, and it had the most solidly built interior of any car I've owned. Even with 100k on the clock, it should last you a while without any major bills.
