I don't recall a hot Passat being marketed before. The W8 was a failed luxobarge but this is new for VW. What's the competition for this? Audi A4 3.2 Quattro? BMW 330i? Vectra VXR?

Look for the estate version, i think it looks better. But i agree with most people here, why the hell would you want to spend so much on a passat?

what way is this? i see see them being driven up and down motorways in the same way as mondeos and 320d's and vectras and the rest of the rep mobiles

Only 300 bhp though, bit slugish in a car that size. How much do they weight?

Sluggish? It's a car in similar size to a Mondeo/Vectra which can happily cope with 140bhp, 300bhp can hardly be classed as sluggish.

Fair enough, it maybe quicker than the Mondeo and Vectra on paper, probably in real life, not see how a R36 performs yet. However £35k plus for a Passat that tbh does'nt look great...

No chance would i spend that much on a Passat, i've got no issues with its looks, its alright imho, figures punted around at the moment say 0-60 in 5.6 / 5.8 and 155mph, far from sluggish!
