VX Rearended - Maybe written off

Fox, you also have to bear in mind the hire car company may or may not upgrade me for free yet charge the third party insurers the same spec as a personal favour. I have no idea what arrangements the hire company will be making though.

For arguments sake the Exige S is heavier and has less torque than my VX. As standard the suspension would be less capable also.

I thought a VX220 had worse performance stats than a bog spec Elise TBH. 0-60 is what 6.5sec or something?

An Exige S, even just an Exige, is a much much much quicker car.

Isn't an Exige S infact even quicker than a VX220 Turbo? And about £15,000 more expensive?

And an M5 is heavier and has less torque than my Dads 530d, does it make it a comparable car? Hell no.

Of course it has less torque, it's a much higher revving engine isn't it?

No, is 0-60 as standard in 5.3. As standard it has more torque than a Toyota engined S2 Exige and weighs less, I am 30+lb/ft up on the Exige and 60kg+ lighter. Has more power than all the Elise S, more than all the standard S2 non vvc Rover engined Elises.

In terms of top speed on the same runway there was only 2mph between us at the last trackday and that was against a Exige with power upgrades.

This is arguing for the sake of it though as a Boxster is the car arriving first in a couple of hours :p

That'll be becuase an Exige isn't about top end, who got to that top speed quicker then? ;)

Pretty much at the same time, maybe 2 seconds in it over 2 miles and only at the last couple of miles per hour at the top end as I hit a brick wall.

So your VX220 N/A is as quick as a Lotus Exige S? Surely not

The Exige S does 0-60 in 4 seconds! There is no way a VX220 is that sort of quick.

Ok this is getting silly, as long as you get a car to keep you going, thats the important thing! :) Anyway, is your neck hurting? By now you should definitely be feeling whiplash if you were going to get it, might want to get checked out if you havent already.

What does it matter that the exige is faster than the VX?

The management company I guess have done their calculations, and deemed it ok to rent the car, as they think they will get the costs recovered.

Muncher: I hope it all goes well, and you get back what you have invested.

As some one else said, buy the car back, and rebuild it. OR look at a Caterham, Westfield?

I find it all completely unbelievable as well

I just don't see how a VX220 which is basically a 'detuned/commodified' Elise can compete with an Exige S track car which come with semi-slick tyres and such.

I didn't say it was as quick as an Exige S, just in the same catergory as a Standard Exige.

The VX isn't a detuned/commodified Elise at all, compromised as standard with odd size alloys at the front yes, but apart from that it's not a detuned Elise.

Concrete - Yes I am feeling it, it's a really odd sensation. Going back to the Doctors this afternoon and will he checked out by a specialist in a few months time.

Tesla - I can insure an Elise, my current insurance company just won't do it as a temporary additional vehicle.

Yeah mine felt as if someone had rubbed tons of deepheat into my neck with the kind of dull ache that you get when you have slept with your neck at a funny angle, luckily it went after a few days - hope yours goes the same way!

A NA VX220 does not do 0-60 in 5.3s. It's no where near. Official figures are the same as the original Elise S2, around 5.8s. A mate of mine has a NA VX220 with Stage 2 Miltek and it's identical in speed to 60 compared to my Larini and Sports cat S2. I'd say the performance is definately closer to 6 than it is the 5.5.

Exige S2 0-100 - 13.2s
VX220 0-100 - 17.6s

Those 4.4 seconds make a massive difference real world terms. Still, I certainly wouldn't be complaining in your position, good luck with getting an Exige S/Cayman S :)
