W810 hissing like hell :(

Having just received my fairly decent new headphones (Sennheiser CX300s) for my new W810 I thought I'd plug 'em into the phone and start listening. Unfortunately, as soon as I start any music track playing it's immediately drowned in loads of hiss, even when the track is paused. Has anyone else experienced this? I get it with all headphones, though lower impedance ones are worse, obviously.

For a 'walkman' phone it seems to lack even basic features present in MP3 players from 6-7 years ago :(

Either send it back or upgrade the firmware via Davinci Team - although this will void your warranty should you bodge it up. The W800i had the same problem which was later fixed by flashing the firmware, and this sounds exactly the same unfortunately.

OK, thanks for the advice. I may hang on and wait to see if SE release a new firmware for it that fixes the problem, particularly if it's a software issue and not a hardware one. I'll have to use the 'check for update' option more often :)

Yupp im getting the hiss on my 810i too... very annoying. Definately not what I expected on a music phone!

Im going to take it back to T-mobile this week as its just 2 days old.

Is there any chance you could post what they say? I'd be interested to hear if there's some official line on it.

I've noticed that changing the volume doesn't change the hiss, which means that it's unlikely to be the headphone pre-amp. There's also some very weird noise-shaping effect going on when tracks fade out, so my current suspicion is a dodgy MP3 decoder and / or some weird hard-coded DSP effect. I read somewhere that the W800s had a hardwired 'noise reduction' effect which actually added noise, hence their being fixed by a firmware update which switched this off, but this might be bogus information.
