I just ballsed up so i need help in finding another good clocking motherboard other than the DS3. I just bought G.Skill 2GB DDR2 NR PC2-6400 DDR2-800 new from the bay to go with my Conroe which arrives on Tuesday. I've been dithering over whether to get the DS3 or not and now i read in another thread that the ram i just bought will be absolutely useless with that board

I wont be able to send the memory back as it wont be faulty and i cant afford to buy another stick of cheap ram to update the bios so i can use the G.Skill. So what options do i have guys? Are there any other good clocking m/boards other than gigabyte for conroe? Hopefully that are compatible with that ram and preferably no more than say £120. *crosses fingers*

yeah that will surely help,

If its the E6600 go for the ASUS,I have my E6600 sat happily at 3.8ghz with the G skill HZ.

Should be fine with the NR too.Slighty over budget but the feature set is impressive.

I bought the E6300. Kinda gutted about the DS3 but if there's another board giving simlar clocks i'll be happy.

Hmm the P5W really would be stretching it, its money i really dont have atm.

Edit - If it would really benefit the OC of the E6300 i might be able to push the boat out for it but will need to hide the CC bill from the missus when it comes :p Is there a significan increase in quality over the P5B Deluxe and the P5B?

If you have the E6300 the avoid the 975 chipset anyway.
The E6300 like the p965 chipset better and the DS3 would be ideal.

Is there nobody you know that can lend you some ddr2 and flash the bios?

Nope, everyone i know has AMD computers like myself up until now and none of them have made the leap to AM2 yet so i really have no chance of getting a hold of another DDR2 stick unfortunately.

Would the E6300 still OC well on this board though? If not then is there no other alternative? Starting to wish i hadnt bothered with Intel and went down the AM2 road instead :p

That doesnt help much, i dont want to choose one that will severely limit my overclock. I'm not aiming for 3.8 like some guys have got even 3 or 3.2 and i'd be over the moon.

Can anyone suggest a board for the E6300 that will work with my G.Skill? I'd really appreciate some help here, i'm itching to get this rig set up as soon as possible, hopefully to have a working mobo on Tues when the CPU arrives.

P.S. I notice that on the gigabyte website G.Skill isnt listed as being compatable at all with the DS3.

the Gskill NR has trouble with most of the 965 chipset based motherboards. It seems to be a fact that the chipset is very picky about RAM.

And the Gskill NR really isn't all that great, unfortunately.

What about with the 975 chipset? My finger is hovering over the buy button lol.

I would go with a DS4 with a 6300. The P5W won't give you the headroom. My DS4 would hit 515 you will be lucky to hit 430 with a P5W

Only problem i see with the DS4 is again loads have had trouble with their ram and i'm very wary after reading the numerous lengthy threads. Do you think it would be possible to hit 3.0Ghz on the p5w?
