...just phoned my local surgery for an appointment... EIGHT DAYS!

What on earth is the point in that?

They've build a brand new purpose built building for our local surgery, spending God knows how much. Maybe they should have put a fraction of a that money towards a couple of extra GPs

im lucky where i am if you want an appointment on the day you have to phone between 8-8.30am, so far i have always got in to see doc

Same day for appointment. Normally less than 10 minutes waiting time but never more than 1/2 hour late.

Excellent service and a hot female doctor with an 80's perm.

Result.

I <3 the NHS. :)

I used get an old man with a dog under his desk. : / He's probably dead now though.

Doubt H&S would approve. Its a nice dog though, old labrador.

My replacement doctor for him is suspiciously camp, but otherwise likable. :)

You cannot book in advance at my doctors, you have to phone at 8am to get an appointment for that day, if there are no appointments left you try again the next day, but I have never not got an appointment for the first day.
Last 3 times I have been (in the last 2 months), I have had to wait no more then 2 mins when I arrive.

You can book in advance to see a Nurse, but not the doctors.

Usually get an appointment within a day or so, Specialist appointments are normally a week to 10 days max. I must say that the health system down here on Cornwall is the best I have ever had.

I had really bad sinus pains (and headache) for a week and a half. I booked rang up to book an appointment and had to wait a week. By the time I went to see my doctor, my sinus pains had gone!

Frankly I think it's pathetic! Last two times I've booked, 8 days and 7 days!

When I go to the surgery next week I'm going to complain. It's ridiculous! Basically I suspect more people are trying to book than can be seen, with a good number of people phoning up, hearing it's a week+ wait, and just saying 'don't bother!'

I've never had a same day appointment, EVER here. Makes it a real pain in the backside to juggle things around with work so I can go see them on a day that's more suited for them.

Funny, I live in central Bristol and have no trouble.

My old surgery would sometimes be really busy - but mind you I always wanted to see the same doctor, and so would ring up 2 weeks in advance of the date I wanted to make sure I got him at a convenient time for me.

The surgery was closed the other evening when I had a problem that wasn't serious but pretty urgent - so I cycled off to the NHS drop-in centre. I had to wait an hour but was seen and given the medication I needed on the spot. Brilliant stuff.

christ, that's shocking

they should have some kind of general nurse or something to get through the moaners so people with real problems can see their doctor on the same day!

Oh, if I kick up a fuss or want to see a nurse I could probably get in sooner, but none-the-less the general wait is a week or more, which is diabolical in my book!

My doctors is over 2 weeks for an appointment sometimes, but they do a morning surgery everyday so if you're that desperate and prepared to wait a little to see someone then you can.

Happy with that myself :)
