Or why not get a job yourself and then you "Yourself" can donate the money - and think no travel and overnight expenses!?
and of course no extra Global Warming due to air transport etc etc

It's going to be a marvellous adventure and on the back of it there'll be some money raised for charity. I suspect Messiah Khan and his wife would want to do the trip regardless so why not allow a charity to get some benefit from it too?

Wow, aren't you negative! I already have a job thanks, and already donate to charity. We have also donated much of stuff we got rid when we got rid of the flat to charity (including directly to People's Kitchen.) My wife also happens to work for a charity, so she had dedicated much of her time helping young people, including vulnerable and homeless people. Have you helped anyone recently?

As semi-pro waster says, we would be doing this adventure anyway. From a personal point of view, what we doing feels totally right. There is far more to life than working 37 hours a week to save enough money to buy a starter house to then fill it with 2.4 children, get 20 days of holiday a year, then retire at 65. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that if that is what makes you happy, but to me there is a whole world out there to explore and learn from. If we can then help raise some money and awareness for a charity at the same time, then all the better.

I'm very impressed! This is a huge feat and most people never find the time to do something this scale in their lives.

I'm concerned about your tent, however. 6 exposed months is enough time to come across almost all imaginable weather situations - have you tested the tent in very high winds at all? A single pole, large, flat surfaces and 3 guylines looks to me like a recipe for an awful night if you come across some strong gales.

Wind aside, the tent looks amazing - it's so light and I love the custom bathtub ground sheet with un-zipable area for the stove - great idea.

Cheers. Don't worry about the tent. We have tested for 3 days in the Cairngorms (Blair Athol to Aviemore), Where it got hit by a storm and performed well. The pyramid design is actually very good in winds as the surfaces all get smaller as the wind gets funnelled to the top.

As mentioned in my blog, the Solomid and Duomid (The smaller brothers of the Supermid) has been used extensively by Andrew Skurka on his epic 4700mi Alaska -Yukon Expedition. They have also been used by a number of other explorers in extreme conditions. I think Erin & Higg also used on in Alaska until it got crushed by a bear, lol. SO yeah, I am confident it should hold up fairly well. Hopefully we won't get too much wind, although there are a few places in south California where they have strong winds (ie, the Mesa wind farms) :)

Stop trolling.

Thanks, but I'm just going to ignore posts like that. People that negative aren't worth my effort. I'll just concentrate on preparing for an adventure and help to raise some funds while they spend their little lives trolling away on forums.

Oh Messiah Khan the negativity surely stems from within thy self. Perhaps whilst "Travelling" you should chill and do a spot of light commune with thyself - howz about time out at a commune along the way perhaps a "Krishna" establishment- interesting food?
I am travelling around 10,000 odd miles to Sydney by ETIHAD airlines flying business class I shall be sleeping where applicable and enjoying the excellent service which Etihad always provide - I shall not be wearing even Sandals whilst on board I always remove my shoes. Now perhaps I should look for sponsorship travelling shoeless to OZ? I will (as you too say too) be travelling anyway.

Yeah good on you mate. Personally, it will be an exceptional adventure but also all in the name of a good cause. I would love to do something like this one day.

I'm all for travelling, it's a great thing, I'm going travelling myself at the end of May. What I will never understand is when people say the reason they are going travelling is to aid some charity.

Does it have to be like that? What's wrong with them wanting to go travelling AND aiding a charity at the same time?

I've checked the page and the target for donations is quite low. If they wanted to just aid charity it looks like it would be cheaper just to give their plane ticket costs to the charity in the first place. Not to mention living costs of two people backpacking about for 6 months.

I guess my point here is that the charity aspect is simply an added bonus. I doubt the only reason they are doing this is for charity.

Wow some idiots in this thread. It's an amazing adventure which I'm green with envy about, along with several others like pheebs trip. Can't wait to follow the blog and you can has some money on payday.
