Hi,

Does wanadoo block port 25, blocking you from using any other smtp address apart from smtp.wanadoo.co.uk?

If so, is their any ways in chaning this, as I would like to use my webhosts smtp address. Do I need to get in contact with wanadoo?

Regards

Robert

Yup, thats standard, stops people running mail servers and spamming from their network. However you'll normally find that must ISP's will unblock the port if you request it, but never dealt with Wannado so can't be sure

Often an ISP will blocking incoming connections to port 25 (for mail along with 80 for http and maybe 21 for ftp) for the reason stated. Usually they don't stop outgoing traffic to those ports.

Wanadoo have always blocked port 25 since they were freeserve. The idea is that there subscribers can only send mail through there own SMTP server. Great idea as most of the spam we all get comes from bot nets, networks of exploited PCs sat on the end of ADSL connections.

Just send email via the wanadoo smtp server its not like you have to use a .wanadoo.co.uk (or whatever) outgoing email address to use it.

If they do block port 25, how do you send any email at all? Because port 25 is the SMTP server i find that very hard to believe
They do - apart from connections to smtp.wanadoo.co.uk, so you can still send email. As said ^^.
