The fastest internet we've been able to get so far at our house is 2mb and we're using plusnets premier package, which doesn't offer us the best internet experience we've ever had :(

But I recently had a business line installed, which obviously goes to the same exchange. But apparantly it can support upto 7mb :D I'm guessing the line must be newer or better quality or something.

So we've decided to migrate our ADSL to the new phone line. We just need to decide on a new ISP.

We've got a Dlink gaming router and Dlink modem so we don't really need any hardware with the contract. But we noticed Wanadoo's Max package (£28/month, 7mb they reacon they can provide us with, 240mins VOIP calls, and a Livebox).

Apparantly our local exchange has Wanadoo LLU presence. Could this explain why they are the only company to offer us over 4mb, and do you think this is a realistic speed to be quoting us? Nildram can offer us 4mb and I've heard they're a much better ISP, so I'm tempted by them aswell.

Basically, who would you lot go with; Nildram or Wanadoo?

Both lines probably support 7Mbps (or near enough), just the fastest you could get on IPStream was 2Mbps until Friday...
Though without attenuation/SNR margin, it's debatable if it's accurate.

Here are the readings from samknows.com availability checker.

This is the current line we are using, currently on 2mb plusnet premier

This is the business line :\

It's possible one (or both) is the result of the Guesstimator being screwy - 7Mbps is probably a pipedream though.

Ok cheers. Well, it sounds like we'll have to give either nildram or wanadoo a go. I like the sound of wanadoo's package at the moment. To even get 4mb and a stable net connection for £28/month would be good :)

2km by straight line isn't particularly meaningful.

like tolien said ....

His phone line could go half way round town before it gets to him.

I really dont know why they bother with "striaght line distance" coz it means sod all !!!!!! you need line length from exchange to house
