I was thinking that the 1st step some1 has to take in order to be able to create his own Webbies, is to learn how to make graphics - banners.

I'm sure many of you will tell me Photosop is the best prog for it, but i have seen it, and didn't get how it works!! Not by a long shot. And i don't even own it so that brings me to the following question

Do you guys know any Free (open source maybe) progs that i can try? Any guides of how to use them cause im COMPLETE noob at these things??

Thank

Welcome :)

Have you already got some html experience/knowledge?

If you haven't I could give you some advice on the way forward with that if you like.

GIMP is good place to start. But If your serious about wanting to enter the world of grpahics and web design, then getting your head around and used to Photoshop is quite important. Its really not as daunting as it might look at first.

OT.. Hello shoot1st, yet another Darlo person. ;)

Well hello there :)

I'm actually from Aycliffe too would you believe!

I just normally say I'm from Darlington as it saves the 'where?' response whenever I say Aycliffe.

I wouldn't be surprised if you lived just round the corner :D

I live just near the Iron Horse, Simpasture area. I'm going into the final year of an IT degree in October.

I'll change my profile now, seen as though there's at least one person out there that knows where Aycliffe is :)

Woho to the Aycliffe massive, you have to represent! :D We should meet up sometime for a drink or something. Add me to MSN if you use it. [email protected] So what uni you at? Sorry ak.asky for taking over your thread. :o

:D I've just had a look at your website, very nice, I too am at Teesside, this is uncanny!

Yeah, apologies ak.asky :)

GIMP is the only open source one thats "good" but if you couldn't work photoshop then you won't be able to work GIMP. I had to use GIMP one sleepy morning in uni when I forgot to make some diagram for a report. 10 minutes later I was just about ready to punch the screen because of it's completely awful controls. Nothing seems to be obvious on GIMP like it is in photoshop, for every task you are having to think "Right, now how the hell do I do this".
