Hi there

Shall be picking up the new car next week, its a 997.1 C2S on a 55-Plate with 29,000 miles and the car is completely stock, all Porsche components.

The garage has sold me the car with 6 months AA GOLD warranty which seems to cover all vital components, but as always you never know.

So my questions are:-

1. Anyone got experience with AA GOLD Warranty, any good?
2. Will they cover engine / IMS failure (10-12k replacement cost), the smallprint says upto value of car covered for claims).
3. Any hidden agenda they don't mention in their T&C's like maximum amount of claims or value?
4. How soon can I get an OPC warranty, is it 3 months or can I get one straight away?

Thanks
:)

No idea on the first 3 questions but from what I remember, OPC are notoriously picky when you get a warranty. They do a full, and I mean full inspection before they'll cover you and if they find anything wrong (even non Porsche wiper blades/battery or non N rated tyres for example) then they will make you replace them before they'll provide cover.

90 days from day of purchase you can get OPC, which you need, that AA thing is just a lottery on payouts.

They will wriggle that IMS is a wear and tear thing, i can almost see the letter now.

I will ne surprised if an OPC give issues on the car as the car has only been looked after by Porsche, they've serviced it, they've fitted tyres, wipers etc. its only ever had Porsche work on it.

Was shocked how much Porsche charged for a set of 4 tyres - £2200, thats more than the GTR.
So as only Porsche have ever done anything on it would be surprised.

Just gotta wait 3 months, which means no exaust until then unless I find a good offer on a PSE one. :)

You havent got to buy tyres from Porsche, they just need to be the right tyres.

They will as eidolon said also go over every single thing and make you put it right before they issue a warranty, thats why you want to hope and pray those ceramics are not delaminating in any way, they are 3k per corner :)

Then you must service the car solely at OPC but its all worth it, its the best warranty, and what a car :)

Me personally i would have that car inspected before buying by a decent Porsche expert.

Oh yea im also pretty sure any aftermarket exhaust will void OPC warranty too, unless you want to keep taking it off every time the car goes in for anything (but i might be wrong about that)

Hi m8

Yep I can get Porsche N spec tyres from couple of tyre fitters far cheaper so no issue there.

The ceramic disc showed no signs of de-laminating, but if the worse happens they shall be replaced for their steel counterparts.

Aftermarket exhaust will cause OPC to not want to give a warranty unless the dealership allow it, so is a question I shall have to ask, otherwise its a case of removing the exhaust if I go aftermarket route everytime I take it in for a service/warranty work. Been reading up on that, its approx a 2hr job and easy to do and working on cars is second nature to me, but shall enjoy the car before I worry about messing with the exhaust and get OPC warranty sorted and then look at exhaust. :)

Servicing cost, I will only use Porsche and at £480 a pop it seems very reasonable. :)

The services are reasonable, and please god you have no other bother, they are reliable bomb proof cars, think about an inspection before you take it away though, do give that some thought.

No they cough up for IMS and catastrophic failure, thats why its the warrant to have.

Cheers, sounds as though it's worth having!

For the AA warranty I had this supplied by the dealer when I got my M3. For the two specific issues I had the warranty was not very good however I guess it depends as to what sort of problems you may encounter. I had a leaking differential which they said was down to wear and tear so it was not covered. I also had a coil pack fail and they offered to pay for the cost of a coil pack but did not cover any diagnostic costs incurred.

OPC is the only warranty to have, the rest will be crap and even an OPC warranty isn't perfect as it comes down, as always, to the man at your local garage and how hard he is going to push on your half. Most OPC's are sensible when it comes to quality mods, they won't invalidate the warranty they'll just remove the part from the warranty cover so most will be OK with exhaust but my advice is go down and meet the service manager and have a chat. The lads who looked after me at Sutton Coldfield Porsche were excellent and always did the right things by me, but I also bought the car from them too. I said before I would not buy a 911 from anyone outside the OPC network with out Mr Fearns or similar giving it the once over. Gold Warranty is based on Mr and Mr's Normal Car of Smith Street and their 2nd hand A6, it's not really built for Mr Gibbo and his 911 for putting that right can cost proper money.
