it's leaving dark marks all over my clothes in the same pattern as the holes in the drum.

how do I fix it? some cleaning product to use and put it on a cycle?

Works for me everytime, take a dish towel and soak it in white vinegar then put it in the washing machine and do a cycle of a 90 deg wash.

sorry to hijack but my hotpoint is so noisy
it's like an aeroplane when it spins!

had it for about 11 years now any ideas?

A lot of machines won't take kindly to running empty or on a very small load. A lot of modern machines have measures to stop if there's a problem - but older machines often don't.

You got it on tiles/laminate per chance?

it is on tiles within a wooden cabinet kithen thing....

bearings need replacing is my bet

so with nothing in the machine if I spin it manually it makes a horrid noise

the actual drum is very loose too..

if it is the bearings how much would it cost to repair

could I do it myself? having limited knowledge on washing machines etc

Every washing machine manual I've ever seen recommends an empty (detergent only) 90 degree wash as a regular maintenance wash. Especially if normally you only do cool washes (i.e. 40 degrees).

They even have videos showing the procedure on how to do it yourself...

...depending how long they have been going for you might also need to replace the spider as well. The spider is the shaft assembly that the bearings sit on. The amount of parts that the washer needs to break down to can vary between models but it can be a nightmare to do and rebuild after without leaks, and the odd spare bit leftover :D

I looked into it and for our machine it worked out more cost effective to get a new washer.

BTW - in the past I have used this company...

bearing replacement...

after watching the four videos let us know what you think :D

ah okay thanks - so how much should someone charge to get the thing repaired?

I'm thinking new machine as well
it's not causing clothes problems YET but it is so damn noisy and surely it will break down soon
