Okay, i'm not entirely stupid - to the point i did a Google for the symbols but it seems the tie has a symbol that says "Do not wash" which makes zero sense as it is covered in vodka and coke.

Can i tumble dry it? Or a huge no-no?
Planning to shove it in at 40C, should be fine? I'm pretty sure it would be?

Dry clean is probably the best course of action. Unless its a cheap tie, in which case, buy another.

Eeek, hmm..it's not my tie you see. I was borrowing it and stupidly didn't look after it and instead let another friend wear it instead. I showed the owner and he wasn't too bothered and just said wash it whenever.

Needs to be dry cleaned then. Putting it in at a low temperature will most likely ruin it. If by some miracle washing it doesn't ruin it, tumble drying it most likely will :p

Some mate you are. Get it dry cleaned and give it back the same as you got it. It would be unbelievably rude to give it back dirty with a fiver saying, here go wash your tie.

Agree. If you borrow something you make every effort to give it back in the same condition as it was when you were given it.

I meant a fiver for a new tie...and for your information, someone else spilt drink on it and i asked the owner's permission if another friend could wear it.

That's what i am doing now.

No you're not - you're saying "I've made a mess of your tie, I can't be bothered cleaning it, here's some money that I think will cover the cost of a new tie, go buy yourself a new one". So your mate has all the hassle not you. That's how I'd see it anyway.

You have COMPLETELY misunderstood.

I have asked him if he either wants money to cover the cost of a new tie or whether he wants the old one dry cleaned. And yes, surely it would make sense if he chose his new tie if he decided to go for the new one or not.
