If you have a large water container with a hole and tap at the bottom of it with a hose connected to it

and you stand up to water the garden, would the water flow down the hose considering the end of the hose is higher than the hole and tap end. ?

or does the water container need to be raised so its higher then the end of the hose?

The water container needs to be higher than the end of the house, unless you can start it by being lower and using it like a syphon - where as long as the end remains lower the rest of the pipe can get higher.

Ultimately, make life easy for yourself and raise your butt :p

The free water surface in the butt needs to be higher than the outlet nozzle in the hose. Additionally the caculation requires the hose diameter and length to determine losses in flow along the hose from friction etc. Excess coils also reduce flow as do kinks. :p
