I was just going through my monthly outgoings (working out where I could shave a few quid off etc) and noticed that I am now paying more on my water rates than I am on Electricty, Gas or indeed my BT phone?

I was just wondering how much you guys/girls pay for your water?

I'm paying £6-00/Week (£24/Month).

You just know an Air-Tax is coming soon!

My water bill is now £380 a year on water meter compared to about £280 the old rate way. We are very careful and have fitted a power shower, low water consumption washing machine and dishwasher. We also have three water butts and we practically using around half as much as we used too.

I wish we never got a water meter installed, we pay a hell of a lot more now.

Change of ownership gives the water companies legal powers to install meters. The guy I'm renting from bought the place about a month ago so.

You folks complaining about your bill going up, how many of you are there using the water? Me and the g/f pay £360 per year as a water rate and it was about half that when we had a meter at the old place.

Me and my gf pay £240 a year overall for water. I know that sounds like an easy deal but we're getting done anally for council tax so it all balances out.

just mentioning the electric, i had a very boastful letter from powergen last night claiming they had knocked 0.2p per unit off my bill, never mind they put it up by 10p a unit in the first place! Theiving swines!

Really?? i pay around £340 a yr for the water around where i live..god damn thames water and london..bleeding me dry the barstewards. Mind you my electricity and gas bills are super low though, which is surprising as the gas heating during the cold months is more or less on 24-7...

Hm...not sure if water companies do this but it's best to go to somebody that at least caps it for the timebeing..

You don't get a choice. The water supply (such as a reservoir) and your position relative to it determine the supplier. Around here its either Thames Water or Three Valleys Water.

in our old house we payed about £15-18 a month on a meter.

We now pay £280 with no meter but will wont bother with a meter because we have two young kids and the washing machine is on a fair bit.

there are a number of website that will give you an idea of how much you will pay if you move to a meter.

Some power showers put out water rather rapidly, faster than you might imagine although it will depend on how long you idle in the shower I suppose. Guess I'll have to stop my 25minute showers :D

thanks for the replies all, I just find it strange that out of Gas, Electric, Water and Phone that it is the water that is costing the most?

yup that kinda defeats the purpose of a shower? you sound like you could do with a jacuzzi or perhaps a regular bath after 4 cans of beans on toast lol! :D

I was reading that a great deal of water is lost in cracked pipes and the like, they should really sort that out.

Do you think the water company is making a LARGE profit or what?

I already do. For 07-08 I'm paying £353.97. (That's in a band A 1-bedroom flat, by the way)

Yeah those electric showers where good for saving water, you stood there while it spat on you. You turn it hotter and the flow stops.

My old house had an aqualisa powershower like this http://www.aqualisashowers-direct.co.uk/ishop/1051/shopscr28.html

Settings are from 10-18 litres of water per minute. My water tank was 120 or 140 litres of hot water. Two 5-10 minute showers per day with my wife and I used far more hot water than we ever did using a bath.

People still seem to think they are saving water using a power shower.
