Hey guys

Maybe wrong place but I was wondering, is there a way to automatically turn an XBOX 360 off either when it's not in use or at a scheduled time?

I use my xbox 360 to play videos from my pc (media sharing from WMP over the network) but occasionally I forget to turn it off overnight, I have configured my PC to auto shut down after 2AM every day which is fine but I can't see any way to do something similar with the XBOX 360.

The only setting I did see on the XBOX was the switch off after 6 hours option, unfortunately you can't change the timeframe so it's either 6 hours or nothing!

Any ideas anyone?

If nothing can be done to switch off on the device itself or over the network then maybe there is some kind of plug adapter that can be configured to turn off at a certain time?

Regards,

Easiest thing to get is some of the plug timers to get at B&Q and places like that.
Stick it in the mains, the Xbox into that and then set the timer to switch off at whatever time you wanted.

Something like this will do you

I belive you can only turn this feature on or off in the console settings (shut down after 6 hours). But yes would probably be best to have asked this in consoles :)

Edit: I personally wouldn't advise cutting power to it repeatedly with a timer.

The xbox is a 150 watt beast even when idle so its in your interest to turn it off. I think the best option would be the 6 hour thing and hope they improve this with a software update. Perhaps contact them with a feature request.

It is pretty ridiculous that 6 hours is the only option, I wonder what the rationale behind that decision was.
