Hiya, looking to buy a wireless access point for my room at work but wanting to get the largest range out of it as possible! Anyone got suggestions for aerials that give stronger receptions or is it cheaper just getting a 2nd WAP and placing it nearby?

I'm guessing probably just buy a 2nd WAP, seeing as they're fairl cheap :p Problem is since it's a school securing them and not having them being switched off by cleaners is a problem :D

Mount them on the cieling, or better still, IN the cieling if you have a false one as you probably do. Tis what we do with ours to stop them getting busted/ pinched by patients. We wire some in where we have the cabling, and i swaer we get through sooo many cables cos they walk off with them.

Your probably better off getting a second WAP. Though if your talking a classroom, one should cover that fine.

You can get bigger ariels for them (depends on the make however, I think the USR one has an external socket and prolly the nicer LinkSys models). Get a uni directional ariel, they are quite cheap and will increase the signal quite a bit :)

I've found hi-gain antennas work well. They focus the signal better in the direction you need it rather than the omni-directional ones that come as standard.

Just make sure thought that whatever WAP you get you can remove the antenna on it otherwise you'll be stuck.
