The klitschko/Haye story:
Early 2008: Haye unifies cruiserweight titles in ‘megafight’ with Enzo Maccarinelli. Announces his move up to heavyweight and begins publically taunting both Klitschko brothers and claiming the heavyweight division is full of bums and the Klitschkos are the only people worth fighting. Confronts Wladimir Klitschko at charity event in London:
Begins spouting rubbish about being the division saviour, doesn’t care about the money ‘just get me in a ring anywhere and Ill knock them both out, i wont moan about anything as long as a referee is able to count’ (an actual direct quote from haye, interview is somewhere on youtube)
Late 2008: Haye knocks out Monte Barrett. Vitali Klitschko is ring side and predicts Haye to win inside 5 rounds. Both take part in the post fight interview and Vitali and Haye agree on camera to fight in 2009.
December 2008: Haye shows Vitali Klitschko a picture of his dead brother with Haye holding his severed head. Vitali apparently loses the plot upon seeing the picture and attacks Haye in a London restaurant. Haye announces during a BBC interview that he will be fightin Vitali Klitschko in June, in London.
January 2009: Vitali/Haye fight falls through, I cant remember any word from Haye about it but apparently it was to do with Haye being unable to secure a stadium.
June 2009: Haye signs to fight against Wladimir Klitschko in a football stadium in Germany. Haye pulls out 2 weeks before the fight with a phantom ‘back injury’. Klitschko fights Chageav instead (who some people argued at the time was the WBA belt holder – Valuev shouldn’t have even had the belt when Haye fought him). Haye at the press conference wears T-Shirt with beheaded Klitschko brothers, continues his rhetoric that the entire division is full of bums, Klitschko are boring, ‘i am the saviour of the division’ etc etc. Even directly after the fight which he didn’t show up he was criticising how Chageav was a "bum" and "only there to pick up a pay check".
Mid/Late 2009: Haye handed exact same contract as he had signed with Wladimir but to fight Vitali. Haye refuses claiming its a "slave contract", "the Klitschkos aren’t showing me enough respect", bla bla bla and signs to fight Valuev instead.
November 2009: Haye beats valuev but finds himself in his own ‘slave contract’ with Sauerland who force him to fight Ruiz, and still have their logo on the adboards for the Harrison Haye fight. Haye now proclaims himself as "the" world heavyweight champion
April 2010: Haye beats Ruiz, once again claims the klitschkos just fight bums etc etc, all the insults under sun that he’s used for the past 2 years:
Klitschko posts video on youtube ‘calling out’ Haye:
Adam Booth attends interview on Sky Sports News on the same day:
Claims that Haye now suddenly will only fight in a 50/50 deal, while also rubbishing Harrison as a potential opponent, ‘haye cares about his legacy’ etc etc
5 months passes and absolutely no response from haye to the Klitschko video after 2 years of constant taunts and claims of how he was going to knock them both out.
It later emerges that Haye was offered a 50/50 deal of worldwide income, Haye then makes up a new criteria of 50/50 meaning ‘the total maximum income’ and says that the Klitschkos must break their long term TV deal in Germany with RTL and fight on another network that ‘might offer more money’
Haye signs to fight Audley Harrison, a man who was knocked out in 3 rounds and dominated for 12 by Wladimir's current sparring partners, so much for fighting bums then
This is way Haye has turned from something exciting to one of the most derided boxers worldwide.
Its ridiculous really, as he has a good chance of beating the Klitschkos, although obviously he has a good chance of losing as well. Vitali is a 40 year old OAP with grey hair, but Wlad is one of the biggest hitters probably ever but isn’t aggressive so needs boxers to come forward to really look good (which they never do as they seem to be scared of even his jab) and this is the fight everyone wants. Two massive hitters with questionable ability to take punches.
