hellooo all

anyone knows the main differences between those two drives:

Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB 3200AAKS

&

Western Digital Caviar RE 320GB 3200YS

any performance difference?

thanks

AAKS - 3 year warranty, "Desktop" version, latest generation, faster than YS.

YS - 5 year warranty, "Server" version, a generation older, slower than AAKS.

hi

thanks a lot for that, any reviews or bechies and apart from the warrenty what technolgy is utlised, is it perpemdicular or anything new that makes it faster?

thanks

If you do a search in the hdd benchmarks thread you will find the results you are looking for, for both drives.

*edit* increased platter density for all bar the top

Remember the ABYS is now available which is as quick as the AAKS but adds "Enterprise" features. Other versions will be coming soon but WD are clearing out their stock first. :)

This is correct, have a look Here

Any drive that had AAKS uses PMR. The main reason WD do not have a lot of the AAKS drives out is due to overstocks of old product they have to shift first.
