Thanks for the response, I have seen the workaround’s, but to be honest that's my point, it requires a simple firmware upgrade (from WD), that the 'Live' version has already had (not to mention the other brands), but no WD have not provided one and the only reason is to 'force' customers to buy the Live version etc. My dad has no intention of networking his WDTV (he can hardly plug a USB drive in it!). The Gen 2 is therefore brilliant for his use, and only a year old, why would WD not support it anymore...(think I've answered that question)

PS I’ve read the ‘fix’ is provided by Realtek (it’s the chipset that needs the update) so all WD have to do is implement it, just like they have for the WDTVLive.
