Hi,

I have the an original WD Media Player and recently it stopped playing files intermittently until now when I select a movie file it just displays a black screen.

When I had this issue intermittently I just did a system reset from the menu and it worked ok for a while, but now that doesn't solve the issue either.

Just to clarify it does display menu's etc but just not the video once you try to play it.

I also have to kinda wiggle the hdmi cable at the back of the device to get it to display the menu screens, otherwise it shows as "no hdmi device" on the tv.

Its lasted me a long time, so if anyone can offer a solution for me to check or its probably time to replace it.

If I do replace it can anyone recommend one that doesn't have inbuilt hdd? The reason being I leave it onboard a ship for my colleagues to use while I'm at home.

Try firmware update. Wiggle all the connections etc etc.

Failing the obvious you can pick them up second hand for £40 so you have to think if its worth the hassle. In fact there are two available in the MM for a good price without PSUs. As long as its the same PSU it could be an ideal transaction.

Although it doesn't hurt to try I imagine the HDMI issue is a separate one.

As for replacing it, i'd just replace it with the newer SMP version, which is probably the one Ben is talking about second hand.
