WD my passport essential

Ive just bought one of these and confused a bit about the software thats on it.
It seems to do absolutely nothing! I think I set it up to sync with certain folders but, as said, it hasn't copied anything over!
Any tips or etc how to use it? I admit Iam totally at lost.

Although the sofwtare runs and claims it installs after exiting it windows7 says it hasnt correctly.

Can I just format the disc? Is the software/files on it really needed?

And how can I password protect certain folders, but passworded to be used with any pc I want to.

Rich Copy is a good program to use.

Why doesn't MS just do a simple "right click, password protect" option?!

i agree with you they should have brought this in time ago, essentially with it being an external drive could you use something like geek.menu (portable apps mod)? i belive this has a password feature im not sure though

also im pretty sure yes you can format the drive doubt youll need anything on it
