hi guys...

just wondering when it comes to t&cs, we all know they are important but where do you get them from? is there a standard template for it that people customise? if so could someone link me to it as i dont wish to crib someone elses if you know what i mean...

Would like to know too.

and me, always wondered if this was something a company only ever actually has written once they become big enough and hire a professional lawyer to do it and go through a load of checking to make sure it's fair, or is it a case of people re writing what others have written and thats it, it's official? seems odd if thats the case as i could write anything in the terms e.g. by signing up you have to pay me £100 every day for bandwidth, and then just because it's written on my site people have to abide by it?

You could write anything you like into the terms, but if it is grossly unfair then it wouldn't stand up in court.

Are you looking for the kind of T&C to release your designs under?

You may do well to take a look at the standard licences available (eg GPL, LGPL, BSD, Creative Commons, etc) as these are widely recognised and have been well written by experts.

You cannot put anything into your T&C which is illegal of course. I'm pretty sure you can just put it on your site and that's enough.

It's similar for copyright, in the UK all you need to do to hold copyright is to mark it as such, then if proof is required you need to be able to provide it. (This is an easy one as a postmarked sealed envelope containing the work is sufficient) I know that this does not apply in all countries.
