... am looking for something along the lines of http://www.ohfolio.com/ but I would like to give the viewer the option to buy a print by way of paypal. It does not look like ohfolio offers this. Any alternatives; I ideally want an out of box solution. Ohfolio is perfect for my needs; simple, looks good, includes domain name and hosting for the year, so a tenner a month.

I know I could probably put one together, but I simple do not have the time. I am purely looking for alternatives to ohfolio; suggestions very much welcomed.

Thanks
:)

Pay someone to build you something custom?

I did think of that. Although, I like the flexibility of a management tool which allows me to semi-customise the content without paying/waiting for updates. ohfolio is much cheaper.

Having a had a look into ohfolio; their FAQs have the following ...

I have some technical knowledge for website design, can I use this when customising my template? Yes you can. Our templates have been designed specifically for people with NO TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE whatsoever. However, if you do know how to code in HTML you can use this in our editor too. The Flash templates call their information from XML files and render that information as HTML, so you can include links, working email addresses, additional images... almost anything you can do in HTML, all within your XML text.

So; I am guessing I could perhaps have a link that tied into a paypal link?

I really like the look of this; as its really simple and very professional looking. Ultimately, I don't want it too gimmicky as its my photography I am trying to 'show off'.

Not sure if anyone else would mind casting an eye over and looking at how/where I could perhaps implement a link to paypal? I am not too familiar with Paypal, so was wondering if its possible to link to Paypal with the purchase already setup? (a bit like the way ebay works when you buy something?).

Get hosting here: Bluehost.com (or any other host that offers simplescripts, with joomla available on it.)

In the control panel of your hosting go to Simplescripts, install Joomla (A content management system), its easy, just a wizard that asks you what title, username and password you want.

You can also find plenty of templates online to personalise the look of your Joomla site. Rockettheme.com are probably the best. They arent all free but even the free ones are nice.

Then go to extensions.joomla.org and get virtuemart, rokcart, or some other shopping cart extension and configure it to use paypal or whatever pther payment options they offer. Worth trying a few.

All of the above is free except the web hosting and if you decide to use a template you have to pay for. The whole process requires no programming knowledge, just learning how to use Joomla, although being able to tinker with CSS and HTML is helpful.

Alternatively you can pay for a gallery on pbase.com.

This gallery allwos your own HTML header and footer. You can insert the paypal button code under each image you want to sell.

Here is an example of how it could look;

Joomla option; yes, looks good, but just too much work to get it all up and running.

i think smugmug lets you sell directly
http://www.smugmug.com/
or even www.photobox.co.uk

Thanks, although i was looking for something where I can use my own domain name and more importantly, something very polished and simple on the design front. The smugmug sites all look very much in between a PBase gallery and the very first website I ever put together. Photobox, is okay for your home snaps, but I was wanting something better.

Thanks for all the suggestions though, its good to see other options. :)

Having installed Joomla manually in the past and contended with all sorts of issues when most hosts used PHP safe mode (which was not very friendly towards scripts) it actually seems like very little work these days using a simplescripts wizard. But yeah I guess the first time theres more to learn and compared to a service its more work. You do get an awful lot more control with it though, as well as everything else that comes with a good web hosting account (includes your domain, all the mailboxes you need, etc)

I guess my bottom line is, with a bit more trouble and willingness to learn you can end up with a more professional and complete setup, but if you are not inclined towards a bit of 'web DIY' then it can become a bit of a chore.

I am not fully committed to ohfolio just yet, as I want information with regards to who owns the domain etc, should i care to leave/move or if they went bust. Will spend a bit more time looking at Joomla as well; perhaps an idea to put more effort into it. Really appreciate your reply though, thank you. :)

Wordpress with a plugin or 2, then you can also run a blog to accompany it?
I'd recommend tsohost for hosting etc.
