Im currently using a 350d body and know at some point I want to change to either a 30/40d (when its out) or a 5d. But for now im making do using two 350d's. For lenses I am using the cheap and cheerful 1.8 50mm prime. The kit 17-55 and a 100-300mm (forget the f stop on this but roughly 4.5-5.6 or what ever it is).

Im having a bit of luck lately and getting a few weddings in, helps with the new brother in-laws family owning a wedding dress shop and the mother running a flower & cake business lol.
My pictures are selling nicely and people are very happy with my service (im only working weekends as still have my IT day job) but its time I upgraded to try to look a little more professional as finding at some weddings other guests having more expensive kit than me!

Money is tight thou as waiting for my first house purchase to complete so please recommend me lenses with this in mind. Im not the type to buy all the latest gear just for the sake of it. I defo want a wider lens for group shots. Thinking of the 10-20mm Sigma and possibly the 17-40mm f4 L canon lens. But any help from you guys will really help.
Cheers

It's a safe bet that if you did go to the 5D you'd want to change all your lenses for primes or L glass anyway. The 5D really shows up poor quality lenses and I'd bet my lunch you'd be replacing the 10-20mm Sigma within days.

Now I can't really comment as I don't shoot weddings, but wouldn't a 16-32mm lens be a little too wide for group shots? Possibly making the 27.2-64mm (17-40mm) L a better choice?

That'd be more because it's an APS-C designed lens though, and so will vignette silly amounts at the 10mm end.

i wouldnt use a 10-20 for group shots, too much distortion to the edge of frames. ive used a 17-40 for group shots, including shots at tables inn fairly cramped rooms. if you have the 17-55 IS i would stick to that and maybe get an 85mm 1.8 for candids or a good flash.
