weird beep sound from hard drive

ok guys here is my spec before i start

AMD Athlon™ 64 FX-57 Processor
NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX Extreme Edition 256MB
SB Audigy 2 ZS Audio
OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC3200 Dual Channel Platinum Series
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium
Thermaltake Purepower 560W Psu
120gig Maxtor SATA
300gig Maxtor SATA

for some reason when i access my 300gig hard drive i get a beep sound from inside the case :confused:

im not sure if its coming from my motherboard or my hard drive itself but i have only noticed it recently

a few weeks ago my processor fan gave up the ghost so i replaced it with another one and since then i have been hearing the beep, its a lot quieter than my old fan so im thinking maybe thats the reason i have only noticed it since the installation :rolleyes:

do you think my hard drive is about to die? or could it just be a normal thing that i have never noticed before because of my fan?

Have you noticed any perfomance problems? Is it hard beeps? Do you have problems accessing it?

Check you connections. tbh I hear Maxtor are not that reliable nowdays

I got 9 of em. Just back up your data somewhere and monitor your HDD. If you feel its faulty, contact Maxtor

thanks for the advice, i don't really know what you mean by hard beeps tho :confused:

so far i haven't noticed any problems with it and it seems to transfer data just as well as it always has, i think ill save some cash tho and treat myself to something a bit bigger then i can back up all the things i need for if this one does kick the bucket

ahh

nah its not that loud mate, i notice the sound of both drives accessing a lot more since i got the new fan so maybe it was there all along and i just didn't notice

ill still try and get a new one when i can tho just to be sure, thanks for the help

Do the beeps sound more like a cat meowing, but quicker?

If so, could be an iffy harddrive. If I stressed my old 20gb IBM drive, it would a meowing sound. :eek:

lol! nah its more like the sound of a button being pressed on a phone

i have also notices a click sound sometimes too tho but i forgot to mention it in my original post :confused:

I'd be inclined to install speedfan and check the smart status, and also check windows event viewer to see if thats picking up an hdd errors.
