Ok, so my computer's been dragging itself along on its arse for a good while now. A few months back the PSU went and took out the CPU with it, so I replaced it with a P61 and an i3-2100, along with a 750W OCZ ZS Bronze PSU. Fine for the last 3 or 4 months, then last week my hard drive upped and died - computer reset and wouldn't boot, checking out the boot priority in the BIOS showed no HDD option at all - just my DVD drive. Just replaced it with a Seagate 1TB HDD and now I'm having all sorts of issues.
Sometimes the computer won't boot up properly. Sometimes it won't even get to POST - no display, no keyboard initialisation, nothing. Other times it'll get to "Starting Windows" and reset itself with no warning. Other times still it'll boot into Windows Recovery and try to repair the issue, but find no recognised problems. I've had at least two BSODs over the last two days. Some programs won't install properly - it'll run through the entire setup process and say it's completed but leave the destination folder empty of files. I discovered yesterday that if I plug something into the empty Line Out jack while the computer is on it'll freeze my computer completely, and this morning it was stuck in a boot fail loop while my speakers (a 2.1 desktop set) were plugged in.
I ran SeaTools on my new HDD and the program came up with two exactly identical drives to check, despite only having one in my system. Running the tool on a long generic test reads about 2hrs 16mins process time, but freezes early on and won't continue. CrystalDiskInfo shows no errors on the HDD.
So to you, gurus of OcUK, I pose this question: What the actual ****? This computer has been a big headache over the last 6 months. If I had any spare cash, I'd scrap the entire thing and build a new one, but that's really not an option right now - I'm on a very tight budget. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
