Random thread. Just got a new HD telly and washing machine. The house now has a faint smell of burning rubber. First noticed in in utility room (where washing machine is) but now can notice it in other parts of the house. Only thing that is on most of the times is TV. Do new appliances cause weird smells?

I find that new TV's can. Fair bit of heat generated, a bit like a new exhaust on a car smells a bit to start with (well I've always found they do).

Though would have thought it should clear pretty fast!

Sniffed TV, smells like how a (quite) hot TV should smell. Thing is smell is all over ground and first floor - bit confusing. Pretty sure its something to do with them as it happened exact same time we got them installed.

Burning rubber? Is somebody in the house doing lots and lots of sleeping with somebody else? ;)

Bought a an expensive oil heater and it came with a warning along the lines of "this heater when first being used will cause a smell" actually did, stunk the flat out with a buring rubber smell but after a week it went away.

Pretty sure its not the TV, the smell seems to have dissapated (sp) but still lingering a bit downstairs (same floor as washing machine). Hopefully few more days and it will have gone

I've always found new electronics have a smell. It normally goes those. in the mean time; shake and vac!

This is weird, i SWEAR i can smell pickle (branston) in my room. Keeps wafting past my computer every few minutes, but there hasn't been any in this house for years :o
