I noticed that article contains an "explanation" of the name from Elon Musk and it turns out that what I said half-jokingly was right. The person really was named a combination of a random letter, a Romanised version of a futhark/futhorc rune and a USA military hardware designation. Which sets the scene for their sibling being called Y Thorn M1A1. Can't get much more "famous USA military designation" than M1A1.

Well, there's something I didn't know. I've just had a quick look at the M1 and found that the main gun on this iconic American tank is British.
