And I can say I won't be buying one
It wasn't a bad car as such, lots of things were good about it, but some things felt not so good.
I won't bore you (unless you really want me to ) with all the details as was a pretty uneventful drive, but basically:
+ Engine pulled nicely
+ Nice interior
- Gearbox was shockingly bad
- Didn't feel as sure footed when booting it
- Brakes didn't feel as good
- Gearbox was shockingly bad.
I mentioned the box twice as I feel it deserves it, it was awful. Slipping into first you can tell there's something not quite right, it's a pretty long throw for starters. Maybe it's jsut first, so I keep going.
Go to put it in second and oh dear, it still feels terrible It had a relly long soft soggy throw, no action or crispness to the box at all. The car only had 30k on the clock. Was the same for all the gears, no feel at all until the last minute when there was a slight bit of resistance and then the gear popped in. I've driven the Megane 225 which gets slated for it's box but this was so much worse.
Got back into the Clio to drive home and could tell right away I was more at home there, the box is so crips and precise (even though some hate it). Although I did groan as soon as I hit the clutch, the Clio is so much heavier than anything else I've driven!
If only that engine was in the Clio
hmmm didn't do too well in the not boring you bit, aw well.
