I hate myself....

...do other poeple do the thing where they go on the website, mess about with the configuration of what they want:confused:....

Im pretty sure they put the large ADD TO BASKET with easy reach for a good sales reason...:(

....20mins of doing this I have a 24" iMac with the 8800nividea and 500gb hd on the way.......:D

also I somehow have got a free 500GB iOmega external drive with it as well as Applecare:)

So...expect annoying questions lol.

I've never ownd a Mac lol

Excellent, I got the same a couple of weeks ago - they are the Muts Nuts :)

Have you got an expected delivery date yet? I had to wait a good week for mine as it was shipped from Czechoslovakia! I guess they are made over there and as they are still quite new they might not have much stock in holding here in the UK.

Got mine on tuesday! my macbook came from china! The battery life is fudging amazing.

Love it, mind you I did ran mac os x on my pc to get used to it & find all the free apps i needed.

Basically I haven't found one reason to install xo on it :) yay

i have a question to the people who have these fast imacs...

i have a macbook (2.2ghz, 4gb ram) and its primary use is photoshop, illustrator and indesign.

now, unless i'm really piling on the filters in photoshop, the whole system works really fast and smooth (i have it plugged into an external monitor/kb/mouse etc), and even when i've done some video editing, its all perfectly good and i'd say even faster than my old PC rig which was a 2.66 c2D with an 8800GTS etc...

so my question is, these 3 gig imacs with the 8800s, where do they really shine through over the likes of the standard macbook? due to the 8800 is it now the case that at last us mac chappies can play current games well?

btw i'm certainly not having a dig i think imacs are brilliant, but i'm saying that i do some reasonably heavy duty work every single day on my macbook, and it doesn't just "cope" it does it all really well, so where do the higher end macs really come into play?

you are comparing a laptop and a desk top here really. The graphics of the Imac as well as a large screen would be the main reason to get it.
yeah i spose...

bit different for me since i plug into a 22", but where would you use a decent graphics card on a mac? maybe high end 3d work or something like that?

what i'm trying to say is i think my macbook is awesome for everything i've chucked at it, so wondering what the extra graphics power etc does in the real world (read: not the world of benchmarks etc)

i spose it would enable you to play more current games, but macs and games really dont go together do they due to the fact that not many games come out... the extra money would buy you a ps3 afterall :)

EDIT: just realised... you could bootcamp into windows to play games... it all makes sense now ;) - i'll have to consider it for myself :p

yeah but my macbook is plugged into a 22" which gives the versatility of a macbook but the same screen real estate as a desktop... as for an 8800 graphics card when would that come into play with a mac? very few people actually play games on a mac as far as i know (the extra money to upgrade to the higher models that are game-capable would buy you a ps3!) so why do you need really powerful graphics? is it maybe for high end 3d work?

Bootcamp. It's so easy now to get windows running on a mac, more and more are using macs for gaming.

The 8800GS would offer a really nice gaming option that would play 90% of todays games very nicely.

Actually COD4 and some other games are now coming out on mac. It seems to be an area with a bit of growth. Also as Huddy says, boot camp and a bigger hard drive make the imac and option.

I decided to get the 3Ghz iMac over the slower 24" ones as I simply wanted to future proof it as much as possible. My last PC was 5 years old and I don't intend to replace this one for hopefully just as long.

I do all my gaming on my Xbox, but I did want to have the option of being able to run some games on the mac should I so desire too, so knowing that an Imac with a better GPU was on the way did make me hold off until the 8800GS came out.

I am still very new to the whole Mac thing, but am really liking everything I see and do. I think I will give Boot Camp a go soon as I would like to see how well the 8800GS goes. Is Boot Camp really that easy to use? Will I have to find all the latest Nvidia drivers etc before I can start loading games?

I hope so IM a Designer by nature and after seeing the wonders of Adobe after effects I see myself getting heavily into that (hence the 8800 card, andsee me buying the 4gb ram from OCUK lol!)

Couple fo questions of poeple would be so kind for me to resolve.

As said, im getting the external 500GB drive with it.
Is it right that if I want to transferr stuff from my PC (apart from using LAN connection), I can format the drive on a mac but still use it to move things over from the PC?

Im also really into music production, what is the sound output like? was considering getting an external soundcard, but I ahte the thought of clutter as im trying to get away from this moving from the PC.

Anything else I whould be aware of? or would recommend getting!?, intend to run Bootcamp etc etc.

Getting excited now lol.

Oh god just thought, what Im I gonna do with my iPod and library which all came from CD's being ripped?

Hi,

From what ive been told the memory you have bought from ocuk is the slower memory as the new imacs use the newer pc6400 memory.

Matt

Saw that when I went to look so didnt other, I assume the 800mhz will become available down the line!?

No way, couldnt believe the prices for cucial DIMMs? what are they seriously playing at!?

(conming from the person that made the impulse purchase!)

Yeah was gonna buy it with 4GB till i saw the price!

Might see if OcUK will stock some 800mhz though. Can get 800mhz stuff similar price to what theyre offering 667mhz :(
