Just had confirmation that my 32" Samsung TV will be arriving in the next 5-7 days. Best part about it is that it's free! One of our suppliers has been running a points make prizes promotion, and I've earned enough for the TV! Seriously chuffed!

What's the best thing you've got in a work related promotion?

An easter egg, a bottle of beer and £20.... but not at the same time.

Someone won a Pentium D CPU a couple of years back and I think someone else won a Sky HD box.

That would be a sackable offence at the companies I've done procurement for. Feebies means the supplier is uping the profit margin to be able to provide them. And it would mean that your jusgement is in question, are you using them because they are the best option, or because they bribed you?

Shedloads of free CD's when I was working in the buying dept. at a local media warehouse. Not really a promotion though, more of a perk.

Best option, simple as. Would reccomend their equipment without the 'training' trip I went on, or the promotion, because they have the best kit available at the moment. They're a manufacturer, so whilst we don't buy from them direct, we do buy through first tier distribution. All the 'freebies' have come through official channels, so nothing underhanded going on.

I'm not arguing that they are not the best. I'm arguing that you indirectly are paying for these feebies, by way of the prices being higher so that they can afford to absorb the cost.

I can see your point. Their pricing has remained the same, they're absorbing the cost of the promotion themselves, effectively sacrificing margin for market share and volume. It's not like they're short of a quid or two, I'm naming them directly, but they're a MAJOR Japenese manufacturer.

£50 gift vouchers, Stainless Pans, Lots of black tie events with freebies and guest speakers... Nothing to touch that though!
