After what seems like an eon fighting a cancer doctors couldn't cure, only slow down, My mum has just been told there is nothing else they can do for her. It started off as tumors in her liverbut has now developed to liver cancer, causing massive damage to her liver and spread to her spine. Shes had so many bouts of chemo i've lost count and thankfully, she didnt have any ill side affects from it.
Recently shes been having 24/7 chemo via a drug that's pumped introvenously thru her arm but doctors today decided that it's no longer doing any good. There is nothing left to try. She is in a bad way already, her legs are so swollen due to fluid retention as a result of the liver damage that she cant walk up the stairs, shes down to under 8 stone and i'm guessing a good 50% of that is the extensive damage to her liver and tumours growths on and in the surrounding area. The cancer in her spine is causeing her enormous pain in her legs and lower back and as a result she has very little mobility and is lucky to get 10-15 minutes sleep at a time
The doctors haven't given her a time-frame - she asked not to be told. but from what i understand about liver damage and its effects, i know she hasn't got long at all. I can only hope that she remains comfortable as possible in whatever time she has left. I know one thing, i'm going to miss her more than i ever imagined. She's only 47. shes too damn young
I always keep my fingers crossed but i know time is going to beat us on this one. I'm going to miss you. I love you mum.
