Cheery begger ain't I?

This is my first post in the photography section. I recently got a 350D with the kit lens and hadn't had much of a chance to use it because of the weather.
This isn't really my favourite area of photography but the kit lens isn't really well suited to sports, so I'll have to wait until I finally bite the bullet and get a Sigma 70-300 for that.

I'm still getting used to the camera, so be gentle, especially about the horrific cloning on the tree in number 4, it was late and I was fed up with trying to fix it.

No.5 really stands out for me a cut above the rest imho.

Seems that it was a reall bright day and the sombre feel I presume you were trying to achive was hindered by this. Although I think trying the rest out in b&w may benifit them.

1. Love the idea but no real focal point for me or nothing to draw me in and out of the image.

2. Great subject but it probably would have benifited from a shallow DOF as the leaves on the grave stone seem to merge in with the background.

3. I think this shot would have benifited with all the stones being in focus as you expect to be lead to the last stone but my eye "hits a wall".

4. would have prefered it without the trees as they are a real distraction. I'm loving the low perpestive though.

5. This is my favourite of the lot. The b&w gives it that sombre feel and the focal point of the age of the deseased being in focus really highlights what you were trying to convey I feel. It also conjures all those images of death and sadness that are related to graveyards, something the rest don't do for me. My only criticism is the bottom left corner where the bottome of the gravestone is, although it doesn't take away the overall impact of the image for me.

Some nice ideas and I have to say I really like number 5. Keep it up. :D

Number 5 is my favourite, followed by number 4. It is a great shame there are trees in the background of number 4 which kind of spoil it.

Out of one two and three, my favourite is number 2, 'Sarah'.

Thanks for the kind comments :) I think I'll see if I can do anything about cloning those trees out. And I think I'll go back there again on a darker day while thinking about what has been said. And the funny thing is that all of those were taken at about 8 at night, it really didn't seem that bright when I was there.

Ah, ok. Looks similar but I guess that isn't a suprise!

As already said in this thread, 5 is the one that really stands out. It's a nice shot.
