We're standing up to sky

I'm sticking with VM, as, for no apparent reason, they are giving me 10Mb Cable, the XL TV Package, and the Free Weekends phone package for £36.99 a month.

But ssh, don't tell anyone. :p

How did you manage that? lol You must have some good persuasion skills!
I have recently phoned up and had my bill reduced by a sizable amount each month too but am still paying £63 more than you :p

Never watched sky 1 and very rarely the other two better of without them tbh

plus vm are now offering fantastic deals

cable bb is great

cable phone is great

cable tv is tv

I love my Virgin package (ooer). Sky One was only useful for the Simpsons and the rest of what I lost was rubbish anyway. Virgin's on demand stuff is perfect for me, their broadband consistently exceeeds what I am promised and any problems I've had in the last six years were resolved pretty quickly (previously Telewest).

Then again, I suppose it horses for course - what suits me doesn't suit others, but for what it's worth, I think Virgin are standing up to Sky and I'm just pleased Branson and Murdoch are the way around they are, because although both of them are "capitaleest peegs" (russian accent required :D), Branson is the lesser of two evils ........... ok, I'll just leave it now :)

Phone retentions, they almost fell over themselves offering me more for less money.

Has anyone noticed Virgin media seem to be doing a big advetising campaign? I was in the local Currys yesterday and you couldn't walk a few feet without seeing the posters, leaflets etc. This is despite the fact that there's no cable coverage for about 30 miles. What's the point in that?
They do broadband via ADSL as well.

We (family) are keeping with Virgin. The V+ box features are very handy & cable broadband is faultless. I have Sky in my room anyway so best of both worlds :D

Sticking with Virgin for sure, Murdoch isn't getting my money.

Yep. I only have Freeview but i think what Sky have done is pure evil. The way they are gloating over what they've done with their horrendous billboards is even worse. I hope next time the rights to those programs comes up, Richard Branson personally steps up to the plate and gets them off of Sky fair and square.

Why anyone would pay £500 - £600 a year for an over-inflated bunch of channels with a ridiculous amount of adverts is beyond me.

Sport is the main reason. Also there are countless great programs that you can't watch anywhere else.

Sky like every other legal monopoly abused their position, the thing I love about competition is that it is us (the consumer) that benefits. A prime example is computer games.

Sky staff and service were so rude and slow it was beyond belief, 6 months to install Sky for me and one of the engineers wanted to rip through walls, Sky said I MUST have a BT line, then Sky suggested I should leave because I want it installing, generally I had a terrible experience.

Now when my friend went and got Sky after Virgin competition he was treated so well by every one of the staff and they said no problem to no BT line just pay £25, they offered him all sky movies for £15 or something similar a month.

I want to back to Virgin Media for all my services but Sky One is a must, I would never get broadband or telephone services from Sky though. The only reason they offer this is for competition reasons, they won't be able to give the same level of quality or care. I bet they will introduce stupid restrictions like Tiscali did or have problem after problem like BT!

Virgin Media 4tw :)

As long as Sky have premiership football rights (and all the others champions league etc.) they will win the war. Football is easily the single most watched thing in the UK, personally i'd feel lost without sky sports.

Virgin are a lot more expensive for this atm and thats why im going with Sky in my new house. Or thats the plan anyway! Hopefully virgin can sort it out and provide sky sports at a decent price then I'll stick with them, but sky sports is the decider!

No, your not!

I got this letter this morning and ntl or virgin media are offering me a load of programs i dont watch in exchange for sky sports news and sky one. What a load of crap, im definately changing to sky next year.

Who else is? and whats sky broadband like?

I love how you say they are offering crap when you want crap in the first place...

Sky 1 - 95% repeats
Sky Sports News - 1 hour of news per day then recycled all day...
Sky news - Generally pales in comparison to BBC news

So..........cya!

Enjoy Sky TV - The BEST media supplier.

Get a decent ADSL/2+ connection from a company who doesn't suck at the internet ;)

Wouldn't have NTL/Virgin Media with a barge pole.

That's a joke tbh. Anyone recommending ADSL over cable need their head seeing to. Blueyonder (also under the umbrella) are a superb company and things are getting better. Most people do get their advertised speeds and those that don't get sorted fairly quickly.

I'm confused...you know virgin still have the rights the Sky Sports 1/2/3/xtra? I think I've probably mis-read your post, but either way...

I wonder what Sky will be doing when Virgin are offering IPTV by running fibre to the doorstep in a few years to come (possibly)?

No-one said you have to go Sky Broadband? I've had (thanks to my parents) Sky for 16 years (at least) and have never used their broadband service, infact for the prior 5 years to the recent house-move I just had, had used NTL.

Depends on your criteria. If value for money features in there anywhere then Sky don't look too hot in a lot of cases.

I currently pay £40 per month for 10Mb Internet, phone line and a decent raft of digital TV channels plus genuine VOD movies and programmes, couldn't get near that with Sky and in a couple of months the Internet speed will double to 20Mb which will actually be 20Mb, unlike the ADSL2+ services, unless you happen to live next door to the exchange.
