The fact that is uses the USB cable for power was the very reason I bought it. It's a decent speed too, I was expecting it to be slow but it is about as fast as my previous WD Media Centre USB drive.

A guy at work has one, 120GB. His disk developed bad sectors recently and he asked me to help recover his parition/data.
The case is rubbery and the disk looks well protected. But it's pricey. You can save money by buying the disk and enclosure seperately. You can upgrade disk capacity at a later date and change the enclosure if you fancy a change or it gets worn/damaged.
Also, as mentioned in another post, seperately purchashed disks will typically come with a 3yr warranty. What's the warranty on the WD disk?
