Western Digital Red's

Thanks for the update Andrew.

Can I just clarify something? Does this mean both the 2tb and 3tb drives will be in stock soon?

Changed my mind and now want 2 3tb drives.

Fight you for them hahaha lol

Wish someone coudl say why these are so hard to get. Strange to launch a product then have it widely UNavailable.

Depends which rumour you believe, one says WD underestimated the demand, the other says there's been a little problem with the drives.

Frankly I got fed up of waiting and in a rush of blood bought a 7K4000 (least they were available)!

If they've delayed the shipments due to a problem with the drive then one would assume they've sorted it. First batch or not if that is the case you shouldn't have any problems. Although it goes without saying to surface scan and check the SMART data before putting any of your own data on the drive.

Are these drives 100% certain to come in stock next week does anyone know??

I've been patiently waiting for over a month now and I'm getting close to getting some different drives if these continue to drag on! I don't want to be sat here in another month still with the promise of "next week"!?!?!

As an alternative, how would these stack up for use in a NAS??

Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB

Seagate Barracuda Green 2TB

or even for less than a tenner more than the 2tb RED's...

Seagate Barracuda 3TB 7200RPM

As it's for a NAS (a new DS213) the drives really need to be fairly cool and quiet! (so I'm assuming that the 7200RPM drives are not the best for this??)

Thanks for any advice (or info in the RED's)...

I reckon they're worth waiting for. I ordered a couple from another site who had them pre-ordered for today, but now they are "due next week". I can certainly understand your frustration at having bought the NAS and not being able to use it though!

Hahahahahahaha arrived today, well the Reds did, had the 212j empty for the last 2.5 months now! No problems with stock in Korea apparently, just took me a long time to decide what to do! Bought the NAS the day before the Reds were announced (by pure fluke) and have been kinda busy since.

It's been flat out at 100% doing a full sector scan the last 4 hours, and is not even slightly warm, the fan is the loudest part and that is only audible at 25cms away.

Been using a pair of WD Greens in Raid 1 for the last 18 months or so with zero problems. They did well in my DS210j then my DS212+ and currently my DS712+. Although I am getting reds it is to increase size to 3tb drives. Currently have 1 red 1 green.
