Right, been looking a while now, and have at least decided on the size that i want = 20" widescreen. What i dont know, is which to go for, so im after advice.

I do play a lot of game so a fast responce time would be good, but i also do A LOT of photo editing, so colour representation is a must.

As for aesthesics, ill decide on that.

But recomendations on the pannel would be great guys. I know lots of oyu on here are fountains of knowledge on this, so i though i would ask you.

Cheers

I purchased the Viewsonic VX2025 and Im very impressed, and a fair bit cheaper than the NEC. Suppose it boils down to do you want the glossy effect?.

If you check out reviews of the NEC they don't recommend it for professional graphics work due to the reflection of the screen.

Take a look at TFTCentral and the reviews of the 20" LCD's.

Hmmm, isn't that (glossy effect) little bit harsh statement that this is the only difference between those two screens ?! They are based on completely different LCD panel technology. NEC is AS-IPS (there is more info about this technology on tftcentral) and yes ... OptiClear is there (and doing really good job for improving the picture vibrancy and smoothness), but it's far away from the fact that this is the only and major feature (advantage) of this screen. Also, ViewSonic doesn't support 1:1 pixel scaling and if he is in gaming business that may be important to him. At the end, NEC is slightly faster panel ... actually it's holding the "speed" reference in the 20" WS arena.

I wouldn't trust the reviews to such extent. That glossy screen reflection hype is not global and it's purely down just to personal preference about the screen. Really don't understand such fuss about the OptiClear coating in the reviews around. Many people are doing the graphics accurate work on this screen. S-IPS/AS-IPS panels will give you the excellent, probably the best and most accurate colour representation on the screen. On the other hand, AS-IPS is improved on that aspect also, as the colour gamut is extended even more.

Even on this very forum, I remember that only *one* person returned the screen because of the OptiClear.

Best option ;) If he is still confused, he may return to this thread for more advice.

The phillips is awesome too.
As he is also in photo editing and Philips is quite possibly S-IPS screen, this would be the good choice if he is on the budget ... no doubt.

While I'm not disagreeing with any of the points you raise, there is one limiting factor vis a vis the NEC. That would be that no e-tailer in the UK has any stock. If you know something I dont then please do tell. I have checked many e-tailers and they are all out of stock.

The P-MVA panel on the VX2025 is a better all rounder than the NEC though. The panel the viewsonic uses is better for movies/video editing simply because the panel type is better for that kind of thing.

It's hard to argue which one is really better cos it depends what you're doing with it. I'm gonna buy one soon myself and i've narrowed it down to either the NEC or the vx2025. But think i'll be going for the latter because of the amount of movies I watch on my PC.

Had the vx2025 now for a month and I'm very happy with it. Not noticed any ghosting, no pixel faults. There is a slight (very slight) backlight bleed but for video editing/movie watching and gaming I cant fault it one bit.
