What are 3 like these days?

I remember a while ago a few friends of mine had phones on the 3 network and they complained about poor signal strengths.

Is this still the same with them or have they improved this?

Cheers.

I'v got a 3 contract. And i have been with them for just over 2 years.

I personally think they have been very good. Ok, when u call customer service, it is in india, but still, everytime i rang i'v had good lads helping me out for what ever reason.
Billing/signal and everything is great.

I got a Nokia E65 on 3 in November, just before they stopped being sold. I haven't had any problems so far. My only gripe is the selection of mobiles on 3 is pretty poor and they don't offer any Blackberrys.

Ok, cool.

I have just been on the phone to O2 to arrange an upgrade. I asked for an N95 8GB but they said that they can't do that without me paying at least £99.99 for the phone so I chose the vanilla N95 in the end.

After I arranged my upgrade I went to the 3 website to see what they have got on offer and I can get an N95 8GB for free with a £30 a month, 18 month contract so I am seriously considering going with them.

Cheers.

Don't forget to get cashback through Quidco. :)

+ £30 for each if you if you get referred by a 3 customer
+ £20 to spend on accessories (ask an online chat assistant if they have any voucher codes)

Also, I strongly recommend getting the X Series Silver data package. It's only £5 a monthy for 1GB of data and it transforms the N95 into a cracking internet device.

I have just signed up to quidco.

To use it, and get cashback, do I go to quidco and choose 3 Mobile then click on the bit near the bottom that says 'click here to take me to this merchant' and then make my order? Do I get the cashback this way?

Cheers.

Anyone with any other comments?

I have been reading some bad things about them; like calls dropping after 5-10 minutes and 1 in 3 text messages don't get received and 1 in 3 messages don't get sent. This is quite worrying.

Personal experience = bad.

No coverage around my home whatsoever despite their suggestions I will get full 3G, EDGE, video calls...you name it.

Took a month before I could return the handset despite telling them I didnt want it after just the one day. Charged me £75 for bills I never used and took the payment despite telling me it was only for a security check. Then when I finally convinced them to cancel my contract as they should have in the first place they wanted an extra £20...

Two months since and I finally get the cheque I deserve for the refund in this entire shambolic display.

I'm in London and the signal is rock-solid. Having been around the country a bit with my phone, signal is about as good as the other networks. You can always switch over to Orange 2G if necessary. I haven't experienced any lost texts/dropped calls etc.

Where do you live, if you don't mind me asking?

What you describe is the same as what I have been reading about other people's experiences. Over charging and poor returns service along with really poor phone support.

But then there are other people up near the top of the thread saying that the phone support isn't too bad considering it is based in Asia.

Thanks for the input. I don't suppose you have ever been to Plymouth and know what the service is like down here?

What is this about switching to Orange 2G? Do you mean in the settings where you can manually change the network selection? When I have been playing around with phones in the past and tried to connect to another network it always failed and I had no signal.

Thanks guys.

Terrible company, terrible customer services and trying to get them to stop billing you when you finish with them it like trying to climb everest using only your eyebrows.

Currently in an 18 month contract with 3 and think they're OK overall. 3G reception in my house is terrible, but with the exception of O2 that is the case for the other networks. To get around that, I sometimes force the N95 into GSM mode to ensure calls don't get dropped as it tries to switch between 3G and Orange 2G.

Outside of my house though, reception has been fine. I travel around the UK a fair bit and never have any issues. My only dealing with customer services was to place the initial order and later to order the X-Series package. No issues at either point. :)

Thank you.

I have been really unsure as to weather or not I should return the phone when it arrives but I *think* that I will just go ahead and keep it. I like to hear about good or 'ok' experiences because I think people are more inclined to write bad reviews that I have found on the net.

Recently joined three and just this minute called them to add the X-series package, didn't have to wait on hold at all, was an indian call centre but they were efficient and polite.

Cheapest deal around by far too, 1100 minutes for £20 (+110 cashback via Quidco and Refer a friend) is pretty sweet.

I got the £80 from Quidco but I found out about the refer a friend after I made the order, which I am a little annoyed about.

3 used to be total pants.

Now they're just the worst.

You do realise that most providers will charge more for calling a 3 phone than others? And, as far as I'm aware, they still have the highest churn rate in the industry which tells a story.

But you can't knock 1100 anytime minutes/texts for £20 a month.
