What are the chances of CoD4: Modern Warfare going on a sale in Steam?

on promod standard will probably be higher than normal pub . dont know what skill you are .

Thanks for that, mate. I remember back on the Xbox cod4 days always looking at Promod frag videos and getting very jealous of the pc crowd. My general skill level is good for FPSs, put in hundreds of hours on Xbox CoD4. My gun skills aren't incredible on PC, obviously, but 90% of CoD is map knowledge and positioning so hopefully I'll be okay. Do you have to unlock everything for Promod or do the servers just give them to you? This will be my first CoD on PC so I'm totally noobish as to how it all works. If you have to unlock stuff I'll get my bearings as a pubstar and then have a go at promod when I get comfortable and have all the stuff I need, I think

I dont think age is a valid reason to drop the price of a game. Not one as successful as cod4, anyway. It's still the best in the series, imo, and from that point of view I can't see why it should be any cheaper the the rest of the cod games.

if cod4 was released today, i still would have paid £30 quid for it.

To be honest I think age is a relevant reason to drop the price of a game. Almost every other game series comes down in price over time and in other media this also happens. Generally across the board from Games to cars to Electronics things generally come down in price over time.

It gives it all to you, you're in for a nasty shock going from Xbox to promod servers though I'll warn you now. :)

You cant really compare manufactured items to electrically distributed games. Manufactured items will come down in price for a variety of reasons - the usual sales, or becoming cheaper to manufacture, or being end of line ect. You dont really find ED games coming down for anything other than being on a sale. Everybody wants games (well, everything lol) to be cheaper, but I'm not sure that means it should be. Sleepery is right about that sense of entitlement thing, imo.

You can compare games to manufactured items.
Manufactured items drop in price for a variety of reasons, but one is age - the old model, which doesn't have as many features as the new one, and doesn't look as nice (if only due to changing fashions).

Games stay exactly the same, but the market changes around them. New games have flashier graphics, old games don't look as good. OS's change, and old games need work to make them play right.
So, a form of depreciation should be occurring with games too. No-one would argue that you could sell Wolfenstein 3D for the same price as a modern AAA title, even though it works fine and provides a fun, solid gameplay experience.
The new always commands a premium, and so the old must drop in price.

I've found the reason why CoD doesn't depreciate...:o

It's because since CoD4 > MW3 CoD has the same graphics, looks the same, runs on the same OS and easier (dedi servers) to run... so there is no reason to reduce the price :D

Activision do not drop the price of thier games until thier replacement is about to launch except for the odd sale.

BLOPS (11/2010) and MW3 (11/2011) are still £40 on steam.

Pretty much in line with Activision corporate policy.

promod you just pick your class at start all unlocked and go !

standard is normally higher but stick with it as it will help you get better.

you pick either aku , ak47 , or sniper really . if you coming from console you probably want to learn strafing as its vital in cod4 and nade spots .

we normally go on netsky crash & strike or mazzarins server (hes on on saturdays live streaming

setting your fov to 80 helps ( press the tilde key or ` at side of number 1 and type /cg_fov 80 then enter

also set your fps ( press tilde ` key as before and type /com_maxfps 125 or 250 depending on what you can achieve . to see what you can get maximum fps wise you type ` or tilde key then /com_maxfps 0 (remember on promod youll need to set fps to max of 250 or youll get a buzzing sound )

to see max fps just press tilde and typre /cg_drawfps 1 this will show your fps in top right look at floor see what you get max then set fps . to take off just do same command but put 0 to take off .

to remove bit of crap /r_drawdecals 0

that will have cod4 running better and getting the best

if you want to just try promod configs and so on try these

no but tdm and s and d are the main types catered for domination and free for all arnt played as much. still servers with those game types though

I was looking to pick up one or two of the older COD titles myself, but during the steam xmas sales 25% was the highest I seen COD4 go, it would need to go up to at least 50% before I would by it.

Argh, I'm enjoying it when I can get in servers I do like but there are a few gripes I have

1. The PC community seems obsessed with stupidly big servers. It's not a horrendous problem having 24 man S&D as the teams thin themselves out, but TDM and the maps are not designed for 50 people and imo it ruins the game having that many.
2. Nobody plays HC S&D. There's one Star Alliance server which I'd been having fun in, but their admins are terrible, at least one of them is. He got me twice prefiring through the door in the garage on Backlot, I saw him doing it a third time (bullets coming through the door) and when he stopped I fired a few back and killed him. Insta permaban from both Star Alliance servers. FFS! There isn't a single other HC S&D server up that is regularly populated
