Can i play standard AVI files in 3D or do i need these MKV file things?

What do i play the MKV files with etc?

Is anyone esle using 3D at home to watch movies and stuff? Any tips to getting the best results?

Cheers.

Depending on the type of 3D TV you will probably need SBS movies (side by side) and yes MKV if they are HD. I have mine stored on a NAS and I use a Western Digital Live media player (around £80 tops)

Im watching it on my PC atm.... 3D TV pending ;)

I have the SBS .mkv files and all i get is two images side by side litereally.

Its not merging them to create a 3D image, which setting should i tick or use etc?

Stressing me out now! - Tried using VLC player, WMP classic and sterioscopic player.

The sterio player at least activates the glasses but just get a SBS image no sterio 3D effect.

HELP!?!?!?!?

Yes Nvidias 3D vision player works fine for SBS mkv's, obviously if you got an nvidia card.

I got some chinese copy nvidia 3d vision glasses and emitter for like £25, works exactly the same as the proper 3d vision kit saving myself £100, looks great on my 3D Projector.

yeah you need side by side mkv for great quality, most new tv's will play them straight off a usb drive so no need for a media centre.

I wouldn't call it "great quality"...problem with SBS MKV (assuming of course they are all personal rips of Blu-rays you have bought ;) ) the horizontal resolution is halved, plus I presume many of them don't come with the DTS MA or TruHD soundtrack.

I personally prefer buying the 3D Bluray - proper 1920x1080 3D image and full resolution sound track

Yeah your right about the resolution and the soundtrack, they do however most of the time come with DTS, which is still good, and for free, you can't complain.

But then you could always get the full image and burn it to blu ray yourself.
